Magic Tricks Revealed by The Mind Melting Mentalist
I was at my local bookstore the other day, browsing through some magazines. I didn't really have any purpose for
going there, other than to kill time. I was supposed to meet my girlfriend for coffee, and just as I showed up, I
realized I was an hour early.
As I was walking around the bookstore, I noticed this big sign that said:
Magic Tricks Revealed

I looked around and didn't see anybody, but it looked as though they were setting up for some kind of a magic
show of some sort. It was an area of the coffee shop, that was attached to the bookstore, that had a bunch of
chairs set up. There was a section that they would use sometimes for various presentations, toastmaster groups, and
author signings.
I guess that night they were setting up for a magic show. As I was looking around, I heard this voice from
behind me.
"You are early for your girlfriend, aren't you?"
I whipped around. I didn't recognize the voice, but how could he possibly have known that? When I faced him I
realized he was the same man in the poster for the magic show. I was running under the assumption that it was a
card tricks, and rabbit out of a hat type of show. He soon proved me wrong.
"I know what you are thinking," he started.
"There is magic, which is based on illusions, and careful shifting of the audience's attention to present them
with some surprise that they didn't' see coming, then there is magic."
I waited, as I thought there was only one kind of magic.
"This magic," he said, and as he did so I felt a bubble pass through my consciousness, "is real. There is
no illusion except what you choose to believe. Stage magic is really an illusion within an illusion. A small bubble
inside of the pretend bubble we all somehow collectively agree to call reality. But the magic I do, removes the
bubble completely. And the truth is so incredibly shocking, that many minds can't bear to hold the thought for very
long."
Um, ok.
"Which is why I use a special kind of hypnosis, after I offer a glimpse of what lies beneath our collective
hallucinations. For if I were to pull back the curtain completely, and leave it open, most people would simply go
insane."
Um, yea. Where was my girlfriend?
"I know. You think this is all a joke, a gimmick to give myself credibility? Yes? Then how about this?" And he
waved his hands slowly over my head, and the room blurred, and faded in an out of focus briefly before I saw
something that was at once so beautiful and so hard to comprehend it was all I could do to keep from falling to my
knees, and weep.
"So you see." He said, and waved his hands again.
I stood, not remembering what had happened, or why I was standing in the middle of a coffee shop.
"Hey! Am I late? How long have you been waiting?" I heard my girlfriend ask, coming up from behind me.
"Um, no." I said, shaking my head. Did something just happen?
"No," I continued.
"I just got here. Coffee?"
I didn't notice the man smiling at us from the other side of the room.
